Book Fair and Open School Week

School is closed on Monday 11/12 in observance of Veteran’s Day.

Open School Week has been designated as November 13 – 16, 2018. In an effort to provide for parent visits and at the same time minimize disruption to our educational program, the following schedule will be in effect:

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13th Grade 5: 8:15 – 10:15 AM Grade K: 8:45 – 10:45 AM

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14th Grade 2: 8:15 – 10:15 AM Grade 1: 8:15 – 10:15 AM

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16th Grade 3: 8:15 – 10:15 AM Grade 4: 8:15 – 10:15 AM

Please avoid bringing younger siblings to the visit. Thank you for your cooperation.

Report cards will be distributed on Wednesday, 11/14.

Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, 11/15 from 12:20-2:20PM and 4:30-7:30PM. Be sure to make and keep your appointment with your child’s teacher. Spanish, Arabic and Chinese interpreters will be available.

5th grade parents: Contact Mrs. Maguire if you have NOT received your Middle School application CREATION CODE by mail. One can be printed out. The deadline to submit the online application at myschools.nyc is Monday, Dec 3rd.

**PLEASE NOTE: Thursday, November. 15, 2018 is a half-day. There will be an 11:10 AM dismissal FOR ALL STUDENTS. There are NO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS on that day. Please be sure to pick up your children at 11:10 AM.

BOOK FAIR

This year's Book Fair will be held on Thursday, November 15 and Friday, November 16 (including during Parent Teacher Conferences on the 15th). You can send money in an envelope with your child with their name, class and BOOK FAIR written on the outside. There will be volunteers there to assist the children. The monthly PTA meeting will be held at 7:30 pm in the auditorium immediately following the P/T conferences. This month’s Rising Stars will be acknowledged. Mrs. Maguire will be available to answer Middle School application questions.

We will be holding our annual TOYS for TOTS holiday toy drive from November 13th to December 7th. A collection box will be set up on the 1st floor by the Lost & Found. Any new, unwrapped toys would be greatly appreciated. Please no STUFFED ANIMALS.

On Saturday, 12/1 PS 185 students can go to the Alpine Theater to see Wreck It Ralph 2/ Ralph Breaks the Internet. Tickets will only be sold at the door…no pre-sale tickets. The theater will open at 9:30 for a 10:00 AM show. Each ticket will include a small popcorn and drink.

To raise money for our Relay for Life team this year, we will be selling Mickey and Minnie Mouse ears for $2.00 each that you can wear when we celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday on Monday, 11/19. You can also buy raffle tickets for a chance at winning a pair of special LIGHT UP Mickey Ears from Walt Disney World. The tickets are $2.00 for one or 3 for $5.00. If interested, send the tear off back with your child’s name, class and Relay for Life on the outside of the envelope. Extra forms are outside the Main Office. There is also a link on our website, ps185.org, to make donations directly to our Relay for Life team.
