Next Friday, 2/1 we will hold a “Read Aloud Day” to promote reading awareness. Students can bring in their favorite book (write name inside) and we will have visitors and volunteers read to the children throughout the day.
Our Student Council will have tables set up to start up a BOOK DRIVE collecting new and “gently” used books to enrich our classroom libraries. You will also be able to “fund a book” with a $5.00 donation going towards fulfilling a teacher requested book wish list that directly correlates to our Teachers College curriculum. Your family name and favorite book will be displayed in the building.
In recognition of Super Bowl weekend, on Friday 2/1 you may wear your favorite sports team shirt or jersey to school.
On Saturday, February 9th, we will be having another Movie Day at the Alpine Theater
The PTA’s Annual Spring Gala will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019, at the Dyker Beach Golf Club. It will be a fun filled night of dinner, dancing and prizes! It’s also the biggest fundraiser for our school! Paperwork was sent home. Classes have been asked to take a gala journal to honor their teachers, to donate a class basket and for any monetary donations. If you are interested in donating any prizes, please contact the Gala committee at firstname.lastname@example.org.
$10,000 Mega Raffle. $100 per ticket. Only 300 will be sold. Proceeds benefit the PTA. Papers were sent home or you can send in an envelope with your child's name and class to the attention of the PTA: MEGA RAFFLE. Checks can be made payable to PS 185 PTA. You have to be in it to win it.
FIFTH GRADE PARENTS:
Graduation is fast approaching and work on the yearbook is in full swing.
If you have not done so already, please submit your Graduation dues ($80).
The yearbook includes a section of boosters. “Boosters” are short congratulatory messages in the yearbook, written for the graduates by family members or friends. Each graduating child is entitled to one free yearbook booster. If you would like more than one booster, you can purchase a maximum of two additional boosters per student. The cost is $10 per additional booster.
Please send in your booster by February 1st.
If you choose to purchase additional boosters, please send in $10 for each additional booster in an envelope labeled with your child’s full name and class and addressed to PTA – Graduation Yearbook Boosters .
