WELCOME BACK--Curriculum Night, PTA Meeting and More

Welcome back to PS 185 and a special welcome to those who are new to our school. All parents are automatically members of the PTA. However, what makes PS 185 so amazing is the dedication of its parents and teachers who work tirelessly to make sure that all students have the tools they need for academic success in a warm and spirit-filled environment!

To start the school year off, we hosted a "Welcome Walk" the day before classes began. We had an amazing turnout and the artwork the children produced along the sidewalks were amazing. Sadly, the rain decided to come and clean the sidewalks before the first day of school. But alas, it was a great School Spirit event and will definitely be done annually!!

This week has a lot of events coming up. First, is Curriculum Night which will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 from 4:30 to 7:30PM. It will be comprised of two sessions:

Session 1:

4:30 to 5:00PM- Auditorium (Principal and Cluster Teachers)

5:00 to 5:30 PM--Individual Classrooms

Session 2:

5:30 to 6:00PM- Auditorium (Principal and Cluster Teachers)

6:00 to 6:30PM--Individual Classrooms

6:30 to 7:30PM Meet and Greet with Select Staff and PTA Members (Cafeteria)

PS 185 will also hold its first PTA Meeting of the year on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 6:30PM. It will also be the school's annual Safety meeting. This is a great opportunity to learn about what is going on in the school, ask questions and get involved!!! Children are welcome to attend.

PTA Background:

The PTA spends nearly $200 per student per year to this end. In order to continue these expenditures and more we need your help both financially and through volunteering. We ask all parents to support us financially to the degree that they are able. This year our goal is to have as many families as possible show their support and school spirit by contributing $185 in dues. Please note that no contribution is mandatory and any amount you choose to give is welcome and will make a difference. Without your continued generosity, all that the PTA supports will simply disappear.

Last year, because of your unprecedented level of financial support, the PTA was able to pay for our Teacher’s College Reading Curriculum, purchase of curriculum-aligned book collections for classrooms, the funding of a Library Media Specialist for 2 ½ days a week, chess instruction for all grades, grants to our teachers to purchase classroom supplies, the maintenance and beautification of our school gardens, family fun nights, book fair, enriching assemblies and school dances. Also, the subscription to the IXL computer program that we hope your child began using this summer was paid for entirely by PTA funds.

So please join our team! This year you have several options to contribute: online by clicking here; or by filling out the attached membership envelope. Please make all checks payable to the “PTA PS 185” and include your child’s (or children’s) name and class in the memo space. Remember to include your email address on the envelope provided in order to receive updated PTA information. Envelopes may be sent to the PTA in your child’s class folder.

Additionally, please join our Facebook page “PS 185 Parent Page” in order to keep abreast of all PTA and schoolwide activities and continue to follow our blog on www.ps185.org/pta. You can also reach us via email at ptaps185@gmail.com.

Hope to see you this week at Curriculum Night and at the PTA Meeting!!!
